Miljkov Monastery
dedicated to Presentation of the Holy Theotokos

The monastery is built by despot Stefan Lazarevic. It is founded nearby village Glozane on the right bank of river Morava. It is located about 10 kilometers from Svilajnac and surrounded by a hill Oglavak from the East and a hill Gradac from the West. The old name of the monastery is Bukovica, while today's name is after a salesman Miljko Tomic from Glozane. Miljko built a new church on the old foundation during Kocina krajna (1787). Church books were reproduced at the monastery, which was part of Resavska transcription-reproducing school in 1420's. Turks destroyed the monastery few times because it connected rebels on both sides of Morava, but it was rebuilt after each demolition.

Miljkov Monastery had a great reputation. It influenced historical and cultural occurrences, while being a strong spiritual and enlightening center. Many well-known Serbs studied at the monastery school, such are Marjan Zdravkovic (prior of Resava), Petar (prince) Stevan Sindjelic (duke of Resava). During the First Serbian upraise, hieromonk Melentije reestablished the monastery for the second time. Karadjordje donated a bell. That bell was moved to Kragujevac in 1830 and was the first to ring in freed Serbia.

During the Second Serbian upraise, abbot Melentije partially renewed the monastery once more. Ktetor of today’s church was its abbot Hadzi Pantelejmon (hadzi Pane) from Glozane (1856) which is evident on a wall subscription on the southern side of the church. Monastery's church is a small, single-harbored building with a cross shaped foundation. Walls are made out of stones but covered with cement both inside and outside. Iconostasis separates the altar and is made of walnut wood. The icons are Vizantine style painted on wood. Some icons are gold-plated.
From 1926 until 1939 the monastery served as a Serbo-Russian communicative. The abbot was schema-archimandrite Avrosije (Kurganov). In addition, monastic fraternity included Russian monks that were emigrants and also highly respected intellectuals. In this spiritual well of Serbia, Saint John of Schangaj was tonsured and ordained.
In 1939 fraternity was transferred to the monastery Tuman, while Tuman brotherhood was moved to Miljkov monastery. Finally, Miljkov monastery becomes a women's communicative in 1952 with Right Reverend abbot Doroteja (Bojkovic), who still serves.

She also supervised the construction of a newly built guest house that contains a winter chapel dedicated to Saint Maximus the Confessor.

The pride of the monastery is a Russian wonderworking icon of Saint Mother of God - "Ahtirska" from 1739 brought by Russian monks. It is known that this icon heals the fever after a fervent prayer.
